HOW CAN ONE STICK TO THEIR NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION?
It is that time of the year again when the parties are over and resolutions are set. Most of us
think that this is the time when we can create magic and change our lives. This makes us set
goals – short term and long term which we normally call as the New Year’s Resolutions. Some
make resolution to lose weight and get fit, some others want to buy a house / car while others
want to excel professionally and some others want to leave an addiction.
Whatever your resolution is, it is very important to stick to it throughout the year. We will help
you with the list of things you can follow to accomplish your goals.
SMALL GOALS FIRST:
It is important to classify the goals and pick up a goal that can be achieved quickly – the first.
This will increase your motivation and help you stick to your resolution so that you move ahead
towards fulfilling all your goals.
Once small goals are accomplished, pick up 1-2 major goals. It can be a difficult goal but should
be a major one for you. These should be something that you really want to accomplish – say
20kgs of body fat, your new start up, travel to a country. This should be something that will
keep you motivated all 365 days of the year.
Once the goal is set, it is important to clearly define your goal. Eg, ‘I want to lose weight’ is a
very general statement. But if it is framed as ‘ I want to lose 20 kgs of body fats’ – this makes
the goal more specific and helps to keep a better focus on the goal.
In order to succeed in achieving your goals, it is very important to plan things ahead.
Preparation of all the necessary resources should done beforehand. If your goal is to gain
muscles, it is important that you stock your refrigerator with all the important protein sources,
buy workout gear, hire a trainer, get a food plan designed. There can be no excuses once
DECIDE A DAY:
It is not necessary to start the resolution on the 1 st day of the year. Select a convenient day in
the 1 st week when rested well and motivated enough. It is not a good idea to start an early
morning workout after a late night party. It is better to start the workout when you had enough
sleep the previous night and then set it as a routine.
It is important to keep yourself going by rewarding yourself regularly. This will work as an
encouragement. You can reward yourself with a movie, your favorite dish or a day off from
